Middle Archaic

6000–3000 BCE

The Middle Archaic saw the climatic warm and dry Hypsithermal, the rise of shell-midden sites along rivers, and the first bannerstones, grooved axes and pestles in the East. Point styles shift to stemmed and side-notched forms such as Morrow Mountain and Eva. On the Plains the McKean complex and on the Great Basin the Pinto series are contemporary.
