Late Woodland

500–1000 CE

The Late Woodland saw the bow and arrow adopted across the East, with small triangular and pentagonal arrowpoints such as Levanna and Jack's Reef replacing dart points. Mound building declined in the Ohio Valley but flourished as effigy mounds in Wisconsin and Iowa, and maize agriculture spread. The period ends with Mississippian emergence.
