Hamilton

Hamilton is the Late Woodland triangular arrow point of eastern Tennessee, northern Alabama and Georgia, named for Hamilton County, Tennessee, and the Hamilton culture defined in the Chickamauga Basin work. It is one of the earliest true arrow points in the Southeast and was made in large numbers from local cherts. It is common and inexpensive but essential to the regional sequence.

Diagnostic traits
Small, thin, isosceles triangular arrow point with straight to slightly incurvate edges and a straight or slightly concave base.
Identification
Hamilton is thinner and more finely flaked than the later Madison triangle and often has slightly incurvate edges; Camp Creek and Greeneville of the same area are lanceolate rather than triangular. Yadkin is larger and older.
Reproductions and fakes
Rarely faked; genuine points in Knox chert show a light patina.
