Pinson Mounds
Woodland (Eastern), Hopewell, 1–500 CE
Pinson Mounds is the largest Middle Woodland mound group in the Southeast, with at least seventeen mounds and a geometric enclosure built between about 1 and 500 CE near Jackson, Tennessee. Its platform mounds are unusually early.

What was found
Excavations recovered Middle Woodland pottery including Furrs Cordmarked and sand-tempered wares, Copena-style objects, mica, greenstone celts and burials in log tombs. Sauls Mound at 72 feet is the second-tallest mound in the United States.
Rules
Nothing may be collected, dug, moved or removed at Pinson Mounds; it is a protected archaeological site managed by Tennessee State Parks, and taking artifacts, stones or samples is an offence. Federal, state and tribal law, including ARPA and NAGPRA where applicable, protect the site and its burials. This article is for study and context only and is not a collecting locality.
