Uruk

4000–3100 BCE

The Uruk period saw the first cities, the invention of cuneiform writing and of the cylinder seal, and mass-produced bevel-rim bowls. Uruk itself grew to unprecedented size and Uruk colonies appeared in Syria and Anatolia. It ends with the Jemdet Nasr phase.
