Shark / ray
Heliobatis radians
Freshwater stingray
Heliobatis radians is the Fossil Lake stingray, a disc up to 30 cm across with a long whip tail and, in males, claspers. Complete rays are among the most sought-after Green River fossils and sell for thousands. The cartilage skeleton is delicate and rays are often heavily stabilised; ask whether the tail is original and continuous.
