The Japanese hunter-gatherer period defined by cord-marked pottery, from the end of the Pleistocene to the arrival of rice farming, subdivided into Incipient, Initial, Early, Middle, Late and Final phases. It is a period of Japan only and does not map onto the Chinese Neolithic sequence.
