Simpson

Simpson was named by Bullen after the Simpson family collection from the Ichetucknee River, Florida, and is the most extreme of the waisted Florida Paleoindian forms. It is contemporary with or slightly later than Suwannee and is found almost entirely in north-central Florida river systems. Large complete examples are among the most valuable Florida points.

Diagnostic traits
Broad, thin lanceolate with a strongly constricted waist just above small flaring ears, a wide blade that expands above the waist, a shallow concave base with basal thinning, and ground haft edges.
Identification
The exaggerated waist and the blade that widens well beyond the base distinguish Simpson from Suwannee, whose waist is gentle. Clovis is fluted and parallel-sided. Resharpened Simpsons can resemble Suwannee, so judge by the ratio of maximum blade width to waist width.
Reproductions and fakes
Reproduced constantly because of its value; fakes are usually too thick, lack ear grinding and carry an uneven surface stain. Genuine examples are thin, water-worn and stained uniformly through the flute-like basal scars.
