Sedalia

Sedalia is a Late Archaic lanceolate of central Missouri and adjoining Illinois, named for the town of Sedalia in Pettis County, Missouri, and associated with the Sedalia phase and the Titterington complex. Points are typically made from Burlington chert, often heat-treated, and served as knives and dart points. Sedalia diggers, elongated chipped-stone digging tools, come from the same complex and are often sold alongside the points.

Diagnostic traits
Large lanceolate blade with nearly parallel to slightly convex edges, a straight or slightly rounded base, and thick percussion-flaked body.
Identification
Sedalia is broader and squarer-based than Nebo Hill and lacks its diamond cross-section; it is narrower and more parallel-sided than Wadlow. Compared with Late Paleoindian lanceolates it is thicker, less regularly flaked and never basally ground.
Reproductions and fakes
Modern lanceolate blanks in heat-treated Burlington are sometimes sold as Sedalia; genuine pieces show a mottled patina and worn, slightly rounded edges rather than crisp, uniform scars.
