Pine Tree
8000–7000 BCE, Archaic (Eastern)
Pine Tree was named by Cambron from the Pine Tree site in Limestone County, Alabama, and is a Tennessee Valley Early Archaic form in the Kirk cluster. It spreads through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia, usually on Fort Payne or Bangor chert. Its handsome serrations make it a collector favourite.

Diagnostic traits
Corner-notched point with a straight ground base, a recurved and deeply serrated blade, sharp barbs and a thin cross-section; resharpened examples have incurvate, hourglass-shaped blades.
Identification
Pine Tree differs from Kirk Corner Notched in its ground base and recurved, hourglass blade, and from Palmer in its larger size. Lost Lake is beveled rather than serrated, and Decatur has a fractured basal edge.
Reproductions and fakes
Serrated Early Archaic points are reproduced; fresh serrations are razor sharp with unpatinated tips, while genuine ones are blunted and patinated to the same tone as the faces.
