Hawken
4500–4000 BCE, Plains Archaic
Hawken takes its name from the Hawken site in Crook County, Wyoming, a bison-trap kill excavated by Frison and reported in 1976, dated to about the middle of the Plains Archaic. Points of this form occur across Wyoming, Montana and the Black Hills on local cherts and quartzite.

Diagnostic traits
Side-notched dart point with wide, shallow notches set low, a straight to slightly concave ground base, and a broad triangular blade of lenticular section.
Identification
Hawken's notches are wider and shallower than Mummy Cave's, and its base straighter than Oxbow's eared concavity. Bitterroot is the Plateau equivalent.
