Firstview
9500–8500 BCE, Plano
Firstview was defined by Wheat in 1972 from the Olsen-Chubbuck bison kill in Cheyenne County, Colorado, where some two hundred animals were driven into an arroyo. It is a Cody-related Plano form of the central Plains. Points are typically on Alibates, Flattop chalcedony or Hartville chert. Named examples in private collections are few; most are surface finds classified by comparison.

Diagnostic traits
Slender lanceolate with very weak shoulders and a barely defined stem, parallel-oblique flaking, a straight ground base, and edge grinding extending about a third of the length.
Identification
Firstview's shoulders are so weak that it looks like a lanceolate; Eden has a clearer stem and diamond section, and Scottsbluff has definite shoulders. Milnesand lacks any stem and has vertical basal thinning rather than the Firstview's flat oblique flaking.
Reproductions and fakes
Not commonly faked under this name, though Plano lanceolates in general are; check for grinding on the stem edges and consistent patina over the oblique scars.
