Cossatot River
6500–5500 BCE, Archaic (Eastern)
Cossatot River was named by Perino for the Cossatot River in southwestern Arkansas and is the Ouachita Mountains member of the bifurcate tradition, dated to the later part of the Early Archaic. It occurs in Arkansas, Oklahoma and adjacent Texas and Louisiana, typically on novaculite and Ouachita cherts.

Diagnostic traits
Small bifurcated point with a deep basal notch, squared lobes, barbed shoulders, corner notches and a serrated triangular blade.
Identification
Cossatot River resembles LeCroy in its squared lobes but is usually larger with more pronounced barbs and is made of novaculite rather than eastern flints. Rice Lobed has rounded lobes and shallow notches.
Reproductions and fakes
Rarely reproduced; novaculite reproductions show a chalky white surface without the yellow-brown staining of most genuine Ouachita finds.
