Brewerton Corner-notched

Brewerton Corner-notched is the corner-notched member of Ritchie's Brewerton series, defined from the Laurentian Late Archaic sites near Brewerton, New York. It is common across upstate New York, Ontario and northern Pennsylvania, usually in Onondaga chert, and is often found mixed with the side-notched and eared varieties on the same sites. Examples are plentiful and modestly priced.

Diagnostic traits
Medium-sized, broad, thick corner-notched point with a triangular blade, weak barbs, an expanding stem and a straight or slightly convex base.
Identification
The notches enter from the corners and produce a short expanding stem, which separates it from Brewerton Side-notched; it is smaller and thicker than Vosburg, the finer Laurentian corner-notched point with deeper notches and sharper barbs. Kirk Corner Notched is much older, larger and finely serrated.
Reproductions and fakes
Seldom faked; genuine points show Onondaga chert patina and worn notch edges.
