Vermicularia
Worm shell
Vermicularia is the worm shell, a turritellid snail that starts life coiled and then grows an irregular, worm-like tube; tangled masses are common in the Pliocene of Florida and Virginia. It is often mistaken for a tube worm. Fossil examples are cheap curiosities from shell pits.
