Paramylodon harlani
Harlan's ground sloth
Paramylodon harlani is the mylodont ground sloth of the Pleistocene Americas, with bony dermal ossicles embedded in its skin. Its lobed teeth and the small pebble-like ossicles are found in Florida rivers and at La Brea; the ossicles are often unrecognised in gravel. Sloth material is legal from Florida waters with the vertebrate permit.
