Mammoth

Mammuthus is the mammoth; woolly mammoth (M. primigenius) tusks, teeth and bones from Siberian permafrost and the North Sea, and Columbian mammoth (M. columbi) teeth from Florida rivers and the Great Plains, are the most traded Pleistocene mammal fossils. Mammoth ivory is legal in most jurisdictions but several US states (New York, California, New Jersey, Hawaii and others) ban or restrict it alongside elephant ivory, and Schreger-line angles distinguish it from elephant. Teeth are plate-like with enamel ridges; tusks crack and need consolidation.
