Douvilleiceras

Tractor ammonite

Douvilleiceras mammillatum is the knobbly 'tractor' ammonite of the Albian of Madagascar, France and England, with rows of tubercles along coarse ribs. Madagascan specimens with iridescent shell are cheap and impressive; the tubercles are frequently touched up with paint and whole shells may be resin-coated. It is a fine companion to Cleoniceras.
