Dapedium

Deep-bodied Lias fish

Dapedium is the round, heavy-scaled Early Jurassic fish of Lyme Regis and Holzmaden, with thick rhombic ganoid scales and peg-like crushing teeth. Complete Dapedium in Lyme nodules are prepared by specialist collectors and are among the most attractive British fish fossils. The scales are often polished by preparation; check that heads have not been rebuilt.
