Broad-tooth mako

Carcharodon hastalis, the broad-toothed 'mako' formerly Isurus hastalis, is the smooth-edged, wide triangular Miocene tooth found alongside megalodon at Bone Valley, Calvert Cliffs, Lee Creek and in Chile and Peru; it is now regarded as the ancestor of the great white. Large 2.5–3 inch hastalis are affordable showpieces. Bone Valley and Sharktooth Hill (California) produce the most colourful examples.
