Enhancement and treatment

Any process that alters a specimen's appearance beyond cleaning: polishing, coating, dyeing, heating, irradiating, oiling, stabilising with resin (turquoise, opal), or filling. Mineral and gem trades have long-standing disclosure rules; fossils follow the same principle.
