San Pedro
1500–200 BCE, Desert Archaic
San Pedro is the Late Archaic point of the San Pedro stage of the Cochise tradition in southern Arizona, New Mexico and northern Mexico, named by Sayles for the San Pedro River and dated to about 1500–200 BCE. It was made from rhyolite, basalt, chert and quartzite and is associated with the first appearance of maize in the region. It is common on Cochise sites and is generally inexpensive.

Diagnostic traits
Medium-sized, thick dart point with a triangular to slightly excurvate blade, broad shallow side or corner notches and a wide straight to convex base, often crudely flaked.
Identification
San Pedro is cruder, thicker and more broadly notched than Cienega, which replaces it; Chiricahua is older with a concave base and side notches. Elko Corner-notched of the Great Basin is thinner and more finely flaked.
