Meadowood
1200–500 BCE
The Meadowood point is a thin, side-notched Early Woodland blade of the Northeast and Great Lakes, about 1,200 to 500 BCE, defining the Meadowood phase in New York and Ontario. It was cached in quantity, often in Onondaga chert, as mortuary offerings. It is the finest Early Woodland flintwork of the region.

Diagnostic traits
Thin, narrow, side-notched blade with a straight base; notches small and set very low; often cached in quantity.
Identification
Meadowood is thin and narrow with small side notches set very low and a straight base, unlike Adena, which is stemmed, and Brewerton, which is thicker and earlier. Cache blades are the unnotched preforms. Onondaga chert with grey banding is typical.
Reproductions and fakes
Cache blades are occasionally reproduced but the thinness is hard to achieve. Genuine examples have a whitish patina on Onondaga chert that fakes lack.
