Fairland

Fairland is a Transitional Archaic dart point of central Texas, named by Suhm and Krieger for Fairland in Burnet County and dated to about 300 BCE–600 CE. It was made from Edwards chert and is common in the Edwards Plateau and Llano uplift. It is one of the last dart points before the appearance of arrow points in the region.

Diagnostic traits
Medium-sized dart point with a triangular blade, shallow corner notches and a wide, strongly flaring expanding stem with a deeply concave base that is often as wide as or wider than the blade.
Identification
Fairland's very wide flaring stem and concave base separate it from Ensor, which has a narrower expanding stem with a straight base, and from Frio, which has deeper notches and a smaller notched base. Marcos is older and larger with a broader blade.
Reproductions and fakes
Seldom faked; genuine examples show patina and thinned, sometimes ground basal edges.
