Favosites
Honeycomb coral
Favosites is the Silurian–Devonian tabulate 'honeycomb coral' with closely packed polygonal tubes crossed by tabulae, found in reef limestones of the Great Lakes region, New York and Europe and as 'Charlevoix stones' on Michigan beaches. It is abundant and cheap and polishes well. Colonies range from marbles to boulders.
