Eurypterus remipes
Sea scorpion
Eurypterus remipes is the Silurian sea scorpion of the Bertie Group waterlimes of New York and Ontario and New York's state fossil, preserved as brown exoskeletons on grey dolostone. Complete eurypterids from Lang's Quarry (Passage Gulch) and Ridgemount are the classic North American arthropod fossils and sell for hundreds to thousands. Composites of several moults and painted-in appendages are common enough that UV inspection is worthwhile.
