Hopewell Culture National Historical Park
Hopewell, 100 BCE–400 CE
The park protects six Hopewell earthwork groups near Chillicothe, Ohio, including Mound City with its twenty-three mounds inside a square enclosure, and the Hopewell site itself, the type site of the culture. The earthworks were built between about 100 BCE and 400 CE and were inscribed as World Heritage in 2023.

What was found
Mound City and the Hopewell Mound Group produced effigy platform pipes, copper breastplates and cutouts, mica sheets, obsidian bifaces from Yellowstone, shell cups, bear-canine ornaments and cremation deposits. Bladelets and Snyders points litter the surrounding fields.
Rules
Nothing may be collected, dug, moved or removed at Hopewell Culture National Historical Park; it is a protected archaeological site managed by National Park Service, and taking artifacts, stones or samples is an offence. Federal, state and tribal law, including ARPA and NAGPRA where applicable, protect the site and its burials. The earthworks are part of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks World Heritage property.
