Angel Mounds
Mississippian, 1100–1450 CE
Angel Mounds is a fortified Mississippian town of eleven mounds on the Ohio River near Evansville, occupied from about 1100 to 1450 and excavated at length by Glenn Black. It is the type site of the Angel phase.

What was found
Black's WPA excavations recovered Angel Negative Painted plates, shell-tempered jars, triangular points, bone and shell ornaments and a stockade line. A fluorite figurine is the best-known find.
Rules
Nothing may be collected, dug, moved or removed at Angel Mounds; it is a protected archaeological site managed by Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, and taking artifacts, stones or samples is an offence. Federal, state and tribal law, including ARPA and NAGPRA where applicable, protect the site and its burials. This article is for study and context only and is not a collecting locality.
