Ubaid

6500–3800 BCE

The Ubaid period is the earliest culture of southern Mesopotamia, with painted pottery, tripartite houses and the first temples at Eridu. Its influence spread to the Persian Gulf and northern Mesopotamia. Lizard-headed clay figurines are its most distinctive objects.
