2350–2150 BCE

The Akkadian period is the first Mesopotamian empire under Sargon and Naram-Sin, notable for naturalistic art, finely cut cylinder seals with contest scenes and the Akkadian language in writing. Royal inscriptions and the victory stele of Naram-Sin are its monuments. It collapsed around 2150 BCE.
