Warfield and Ulrich quarries, Kemmerer

The commercial Green River quarries around Kemmerer (Warfield, Ulrich's, American Fossil, Tynsky and others) sit on Fossil Lake beds outside the national monument and sell dig-your-own days as well as prepared plates. Split-fish-layer material is quick and abundant; the 18-inch layer gives darker, better-preserved fish but needs professional preparation. Quarry provenance, layer and preparation history are what a good label carries.

Rules
Each quarry sets its own terms: a day fee, hand tools or provided tools, and a common rule that rare finds (stingrays, gars, birds, turtles, mammals) belong to the quarry or are subject to a buy-out price, while common fish are yours. Ulrich's requires you to split in the 18-inch layer with staff; American Fossil lets you keep everything. Read the waiver and record the quarry name on every specimen.
