Limestone

A sedimentary rock of calcium carbonate, mostly from the shells and skeletons of marine organisms; chalk is a soft, fine limestone of coccolith plates, and marl is a limestone–clay mixture.

A sedimentary rock of calcium carbonate, mostly from the shells and skeletons of marine organisms; chalk is a soft, fine limestone of coccolith plates, and marl is a limestone–clay mixture. Dissolves in dilute acid, which is what acid preparation exploits.
